How to Manage Working With Multiple Clients as a Tutor

If you want to expand your understanding of various topics, enhance your tutoring abilities, and (of course) bring in some extra cash along the way, it might be time to take on another tutoring client! If you are someone who already tutors one student individually, you already know how much work a single client can be. Becoming determined to help them succeed in their academics and in life is a journey like no other, and doing it all again with an additional student will take double the time. Here is everything you need to know about managing and working with multiple clients as a tutor. 

Prioritize Tests and Deadlines

When working with multiple clients as a tutor, it is important to base your schedule around their tests and important deadlines. For example, if one student's final exam week is sooner than your other client, it is important to set these boundaries and prioritize the student who needs additional support at that point in time. Make yourself aware of the deadlines of each client, so you can prepare for additional questions, last-minute tutoring sessions, and emergency phone calls. 

Plan Your Weeks!

If you do not already use a planner, this is your sign to do so! Every time you take on an additional tutoring client, be sure to ask for their syllabi for the course you are assisting with as soon as possible. This way, you can plan out your weeks depending on important test dates and project deadlines. You will also know exactly how many times per week the student meets for class, and additional information such as a course schedule for the semester and teacher contact information if you should need it. 

Set Reminders

Use technology to your advantage and set reminders for important deadlines that are quickly approaching. When taking on additional tutoring clients, it is important to set reminders to help keep you on track, for your student's sake! This way, you will be less likely to miss a deadline and can better prepare your clients for the responsibilities that await them. 

Avoid Burnout

When taking on multiple tutoring clients, you will have to get more effective at managing your time. When planning out your weeks and getting ready for due dates, be sure to pencil in some YOU time! Self-care is especially important when serving in a people-facing job. Having the ability to reset and focus on things that are important in your life, will allow you to give more of yourself to your students when it is time to teach.
