SiSTEM’s proven history of increasing academic growth in underserved populations is well-documented and grounded in a practice that promotes equity. Additionally, we have secured contracts worth over $1,000,000 since 2019.  The case studies that follow demonstrate SiSTEM’s ability to simultaneously execute multiple contracts for diverse student populations and school types.

Let's dive into one of our recent partnerships, where SiSTEM worked with supporting Rêve Preparatory Charter School: 

In January 2023, Rêve Preparatory Charter School, which serves close to 200 students in Kindergarten through 6th grade, reached out to SiSTEM to provide on-going STEM enrichment for their students. SiSTEM embraced working with a 96% African American or Hispanic student body in which 25% of students are considered at risk of dropping out of school, and 25% of whom are enrolled in ELL programs. The demographics aligned with SiSTEM’s mission to cultivate academic achievement and confidence for underserved populations. Multiple studies show that having a match between students’ and instructors’ backgrounds improves academic achievement, behavior, and attendance (Holt and Gershon, 2017; Hobbs 2020).  SiSTEM recruited and trained 9 tutors, 100% of whom mirrored the diversity of the student body. Over the course of 5 months, student improvement factors such as attendance and academic participation increased by more than 22% for grades K-2 and by an average of 17% in grades 3-8.

That improvement was accomplished by providing students with attendance, platform usage, and academic growth challenges. For example, students who successfully and consistently completed lessons in Zearn and Amplify accessed reinforcements  such as winning small prizes, choosing snacks first, and going outside early for an extra 10 minutes. We also provided similar monthly incentives  for distribution by classroom teachers to encourage students to attend their tutoring sessions. We are constantly innovating ways to increase student engagement to foster the best academic outcomes.
